Adventure Stop #3

Muscle Strength and Muscle Endurance

Muscle strength is the largest amount of force a muscle can produce with one movement, like throwing or kicking a ball as hard as you can.

Muscle endurance is how long a group of muscles can work with out stopping, like hanging by your hands on a playground bar as you move along the bar or doing sit-ups for a long period of time.

You need both muscle strength and muscle endurance to stay fit.

Building your Muscles

Building your muscles to be strong and active takes time. If you exercise your muscles they get strong and help you to be healthy and fit. If you don’t use your muscles they get weak.

Compare this to the life of a plant. A plant gets strong when it gets plenty of air, water, and
sun.If the plant doesn’t get these three things it will become very weak, just like your muscles.

Let's take a look at your Muscles.

Muscles Work all the Time!

You could not move without muscles. You need muscles to move your bones so you can run, walk, dance, climb, lift, throw, push, and pull. You need muscles to smile, to wink your eye, and to scratch your nose.

You have special muscles for Special Jobs

Your tongue, heart and stomach are all muscles. Muscles help your lungs move air in and out of your body so you can breathe.
